The Inside Story

Chandigarh-based Cardiologist Found Dead in Dera Bassi

Dera Bassi, a town in the state of Punjab, witnessed the tragic death of cardiologist Deepak Kaura, who went missing on December 21, 2011. His body was discovered inside his parked SUV car near Hebatpur Link Road on December 22, 2011. The police have filed a case of murder against two unidentified persons, including a woman. The deceased's mobile phone, car keys, a diamond ring, and a gold chain were found missing from the crime scene. The body was shifted to Dera Bassi civil hospital for a post-mortem.

The deceased's SUV Tata Aria car was parked near an under-construction Green City colony since the previous night. A property dealer in the area named Pintoo informed the police after he found a man sleeping inside the car with a blanket over his body. When the police arrived, they found the car unlocked, and the body lying face-down on the rear seats. Dr Kaura was identified with the help of car documents. His father, hospital staff, and friends had no clue about his whereabouts since he left the hospital the previous night. The police have begun investigations, and the cause of death will be established through post-mortem.

Dr Kaura, who was living in Sector 19, Chandigarh, was running a multispecialty hospital named Oxford near his house. His controversial past includes his conviction to four years of imprisonment for creating circumstances that led to his wife's suicide in 2005. He remained out on bail after being granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Work at Oxford Hospital came to a halt after the news of his death.
