The Inside Story

Unidentified Man Allegedly Rapes 20-Year-Old Girl from Manipur in Gurgaon, Delhi

An unidentified man allegedly raped a 20-year-old girl from Churachandpur district in Manipur last night in Gurgaon, Delhi. The girl had come to Delhi in 2010 and was working at a spa centre. The alleged victim was waiting for public transport after finishing her office work at around 8.45 PM when a man offered her a lift to her residence in Mahipalpur. Instead of taking her to Mahipalpur road, the man forcefully took her toward Dwarka. She screamed inside the car, but the man took her to an isolated area in Dwarka sector 20, where he beat her, bit her face, and raped her repeatedly.

The victim was left in the place, and the man ran away. She remained unconscious till 11 PM and called her friends, who rushed to the spot and found her lying wounded in the cold. The incident has prompted outrage, and the National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM) condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the culprit. The NE Support Centre & Helpline (NESCH) has also condemned the incident and said that such cases of sexual abuse against women from the Northeast are increasing in Delhi.

The NESCH said that the victim was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi, and a case has been registered at the Dwarka police station. The NESCH has also demanded that the government take immediate steps to ensure the safety of women from the Northeast and address the issue of racism and discrimination against them. The incident is a stark reminder of the need for better safety measures for women in India and highlights the urgent need for the government to take action to prevent such crimes from occurring again in the future.
