Crime Patrol | Jyoti Shyamdasani Murder Case: How a Love Affair Allegedly Led to a Deadly Conspiracy
(Dial 100, Ep 684, 4 January 2018)

Kanpur, UP
When a person is blinded by love, greed, and obsession, they can sink to unimaginable depths, crossing all moral boundaries. The infamous Jyoti murder case of Kanpur exposes this grim reality of society—a tragic incident where the sacred bond of marriage and trust was brutally shattered.

Piyush Shyamdasani belonged to a highly affluent industrialist family in Kanpur. During his college days, he met Manisha Mahejani, and the two grew close. However, bowing to family pressure, Piyush was married to Jyoti, the daughter of Jabalpur-based businessman Shankar Lal Nagdev, in 2012. The wedding was a grand, celebratory affair, but for Piyush, it was merely a facade. Even after tying the knot, he could not let go of his former girlfriend, and their secret affair continued to flourish.

When Jyoti eventually discovered her husband's deceit and his illicit relationship, she fiercely objected. She made every possible effort to save her crumbling marriage. But to Piyush and Manisha, who were completely consumed by their obsession, Jyoti became the biggest obstacle in their path. Together, they hatched a chilling conspiracy to eliminate her forever.

Piyush, utilizing his driver Awadhesh Chaturvedi as a middleman, hired three contract killers—Renu (alias Akhilesh Kanojia), Sonu Kashyap, and Ashish Kashyap—for a mere ₹50,000. On the fateful night of July 27, 2014, Piyush took his wife out for dinner under false pretenses. On their way back, executing the pre-planned plot, he handed the car over to the assailants. The hired killers brutally stabbed Jyoti over 14 times inside the moving vehicle, killing her on the spot.

Initially, Piyush attempted to stage the gruesome murder as a robbery and kidnapping gone wrong. However, his fabricated story quickly collapsed under intense police interrogation. After a long and arduous legal battle for justice, a Kanpur court in October 2022 convicted the main accused, Piyush Shyamdasani, along with his four accomplices (Awadhesh, Renu, Sonu, and Ashish), sentencing them all to life imprisonment.
