The Inside Story

Sikandara, Ramabai Nagar, Uttar Pradesh

Samajwadi Party Worker Shot Dead in Bus

In a tragic incident, Shammi Kohli (48), a Samajwadi Party worker, was fatally shot while traveling on a bus in Sikandara, Ramabai Nagar district. The police suspect that the motive behind the killing is an ongoing feud related to a murder case in which Kohli was accused. The incident occurred when the bus made a stop at a dhaba in Sikandara at 2 am. Two assailants entered the bus, shot Kohli multiple times, and then fled the scene after threatening other passengers.

Kohli, a resident of Agra, had been on her way to Lucknow. According to her son, Preeti, the wife of Kohli's son, had remarried and allegedly conspired with her new husband, Nitin Gupta, and his friend Mohit Bhardwaj to carry out the murder. Kohli's two sons had previously been jailed and later released on bail in connection with the murder of Gupta's brother in Agra. The police are currently searching for Preeti, Gupta, and Mohit, who are all absconding.

Shammi Kohli, a former member of the Samajwadi Party, had visited senior party leader Shivpal Yadav in Etawah just a few days before the incident. While she had been a dedicated party worker in the past, Kohli had not attended party meetings in recent years. The shocking killing of Shammi Kohli has sent shockwaves through the community and highlights the need for swift action to address the rising violence and feuds that threaten public safety.
