Crime Patrol | Laila Khan Murder Case: The Farmhouse Mystery That Shocked India
(Dial 100, Ep 733 on 14 March 2018)

Inside Story

Mumbai
The glamorous world of Bollywood often hides chilling realities behind its flashing lights. The tragic case of actress Laila Khan is a grim reminder of this dark side. Bringing closure to a 13-year-old mystery, a Mumbai Sessions Court recently sentenced Parvez Tak to death for the brutal mass murder of six of his own family members.

Laila Khan, who gained fame starring opposite superstar Rajesh Khanna in the 2008 film Wafaa, disappeared mysteriously in February 2011. Along with her vanished her mother Celina, three siblings, and a relative. Initially suspected to be a simple case of relocation to Dubai, the truth turned out to be a horrific conspiracy driven by raw greed. Police investigations revealed that Celina’s third husband, Parvez Tak, was the mastermind. Feeling deeply insecure about Celina’s continued reliance on her second husband, Asif Shaikh, Tak's jealousy festered. Furthermore, as the family planned to sell their Indian properties and relocate to Dubai, Tak—who lacked a passport—was terrified of being left behind penniless. On the fateful night of February 8, 2011, at their Igatpuri farmhouse, a heated argument escalated into a bloodbath. Tak fatally struck Celina with an iron rod. When Laila and her siblings rushed down upon hearing the screams, Tak, aided by a watchman, mercilessly eliminated them to ensure there were no eyewitnesses. The bodies were buried right in the farmhouse compound.

The truth remained buried until a 2012 terror investigation in Jammu & Kashmir inadvertently led agencies to Tak. Following his confession, the skeletal remains were recovered, unraveling a crime that shocked the entire nation. Justice was finally served in May 2024. The court labeled this a "rarest of rare" case, serving as a haunting reminder that sometimes, the deadliest threats lurk within our own homes.
