Crime Patrol: Couple wanted money for dance show, killed boy (Episode 628 on 28th Feb, 2016)

New Delhi:

Teenage couple kills neighbor's child over ransom demand for dance reality show entry fee

A 17-year-old boy and his girlfriend have been apprehended for the kidnapping and murder of their neighbor's 13-year-old son in Badarpur area, South-East Delhi. The couple demanded a ransom of Rs. 60,000 from the child's parents so that they could pay the entry fee of a popular dance reality show in Mumbai. The boy discovered their intentions, following which they murdered him and dumped the body in a ditch near Ranikhet in Uttarakhand.

The couple had lured Swapnesh Gupta, who idolized them as his mentors, to accompany them to the auditions of the dance reality show in Rudrapur. They befriended a man on the bus who allowed them to stay overnight near Corbett National Park. At night, they took the child to a hill, strangled him with a belt, and pushed him off the cliff into a ditch.

Swapnesh's father filed a missing case on September 16. The family received a call from a girl demanding a ransom of Rs. 60,000. The police tracked the location of the caller for three days and finally located the boy and the girl at the spot where they had asked the family to deliver the ransom money. The couple broke down and confessed to the crime. The decomposed body of the child was recovered on Monday and handed over to the family members after an autopsy.
