Crime Patrol: South Bombay child sodomised, teacher held (Episode 56 - 5th November 2011)

The Inside Story

PE Teacher Arrested for Sodomising Six-Year-Old Boy in Mumbai

A 27-year-old physical education teacher from Manav Mandir School, Malabar Hill, Mumbai, was arrested on charges of sodomising a six-year-old boy. Shivajirao Tawde allegedly sexually abused the victim on Wednesday and Thursday in the school toilet and forced him to frame another student, an 11-year-old boy. The victim's parents noticed a change in their son's behavior and after questioning him, discovered the abuse.

The school authorities were informed and a Maths teacher was asked to investigate. However, Tawde's close friend and the Maths teacher allegedly made the 11-year-old victim write a confession letter stating that he and a friend sexually abused the six-year-old. The authorities expelled the 11-year-old based on the letter. On Sunday, the six-year-old victim admitted that the expelled student was innocent and that it was his PE teacher who had abused him. The victim's parents then lodged a complaint with the Malabar police and Tawde was arrested from his residence in Ghatkopar.

The police have registered a case against Tawde under sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 ii (criminal intimidation). The investigation is ongoing, and the police are verifying whether any other school officials are involved. The school administratorhas stated that the expelled student will be reinstated upon receiving a written letter from his parents. The incident has shocked school authorities, especially because Tawde had recently got married and was considered a trusted employee.

It is crucial to report any instances of sexual abuse to the authorities immediately. Victims of sexual abuse may experience physical and emotional trauma and require professional support to recover from the experience. Schools must conduct thorough background checks on their employees, and teachers must be trained in identifying and reporting cases of sexual abuse to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
