The Inside Story

Life Sentence for Serial Abductor in Panchkula Kidnapping Case

A local court in Panchkula, Chandigarh, has handed a life sentence to Ravinder Gill, the accused in the abduction of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl nearly two years ago. The court's decision comes a year after Gill's arrest in the case. Last week, Gill was found guilty of kidnapping, and the court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.

The abduction took place in October 2009 when Gill allegedly kidnapped the child from her home in Sector 7, Panchkula. The victim's family paid a ransom of Rs 8 lakh, and the girl was released after the payment was made at Verka plant in SAS Nagar. The prosecution's case relied on the eyewitness account of the girl's grandfather and the evidence recovered based on the accused's disclosures.

Gill had previous cases of kidnapping against him and is currently in judicial custody at the Ambala Central Jail. One of his notorious abductions involved a relative of Union Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in October 2010. This conviction highlights the severity of the crime and serves as a stern warning against those who engage in such heinous acts.
