Woman arrested for forcing 15-year-old daughter into prostitution at the age of 10
A 40-year-old woman has been arrested by the Malwani police for allegedly forcing her 15-year-old daughter into prostitution at the age of 10. The police conducted a raid on the house where the girl was being held in the kitchen. The girl was staying in the house with a woman identified as Salma Sheikh (43), who allegedly sent her to clients with the mother's consent. The police were informed by an NGO called Childline, which works in collaboration with the Mumbai Police against child abuse.
The girl's mother had left her eldest daughter with Sheikh while she was staying in Pune with her two younger children. She had remarried around three years ago after the death of her first husband. The victim in her statement told the police that she was sent to live with Salma at the age of 10 and had been forced into prostitution. Both Sheikh and the girl's mother have been arrested, and the girl has been sent for medical examination.
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of child abuse and the need for strict laws to prevent such heinous crimes from happening. It is essential to ensure that children are not subjected to such horrific crimes and that they receive the support and care they need to heal and rebuild their lives.
