The Inside Story

Businessman and Secretary Murdered over Real Estate Deal in Mumbai

A real estate agent, Ibrahim Shaikh (38), along with his accomplices Ravindra Reddy (37) and Nitin Bhatia, have been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Pune businessman Vinod Broker (84) and his personal secretary Usha Nair (51) over a real estate deal valued at Rs 45 crore in Juhu, Mumbai. The bodies of the victims were found near Khandala, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on April 30.

Shaikh had reportedly bought the bungalow Janaki Kutir in Juhu, Mumbai, for Rs 4 crore and promised Reddy and Bhatia a large sum for the murder of Broker and Nair. After zeroing in on a place to dump the bodies, the trio strangled the victims with ropes and later stole property documents from Broker's Pune flat. The police were alerted to the crime after eyewitnesses reported seeing Shaikh and his associates visit Broker at his residence in Koregaon Park.

The Bandra crime branch unit began investigating and arrested Shaikh, who then led them to Reddy and Bhatia. The police believe that Bhatia also stole Broker's car and sold it in Mumbai. The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and have been handed over to the Pune police for further investigation.
