Crime Patrol: Girl held for killing mother in Haryana (Episode 218 on 8th Feb 2013)

The Inside Story

Chandigarh, Nov 21

Teen girl allegedly murders mother in Haryana over relationship with older man

Police in Sonipat district's Gohana town, Haryana, have arrested a 16-year-old girl for the alleged murder of her mother after the latter objected to her relationship with an older man from a different caste. The girl, her boyfriend, and another man allegedly killed her mother, Sheela, on 25th October, then buried her body near a drain. After mixing sleeping pills in her mother's milk, the girl reportedly took her to the drain on a motorcycle with the help of her boyfriend and his friend before they strangled her mother and buried her there. The trio was arrested after Sheela's brother filed a police complaint about her disappearance.

During interrogation, the girl reportedly admitted to the crime and revealed that she had married her boyfriend, Surinder, within ten days of the incident. They continued to live in the same area of Gohana after the murder. However, Sheela's brother's complaint led to the discovery of her body and the trio's arrest.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the influence of caste-based relationships, particularly among young people, and the escalation of disputes to such extreme levels. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the accused are expected to face legal action.
